Arne Jacobsen designed the Munkegård luminaire for the Munkegård school in Søborg, Denmark, in 1955. It was the first embedded luminaire to illuminate the ceiling, thus achieving softening light contrasts. The discreet presence of the luminaire in the room harmonized with the architectural approach of Arne Jacobsen. The luminaire simulates a glass disc suspended under the ceiling.
