Poul Henningsen developed the PH 5 in 1958 in response to constant changes in the shape and size of incandescent bulbs, and created a lamp that could be used with any light source. The iconic design is based on the same principles as Henningsen's three-screen system, which ensures that the light is smooth, pleasant and completely anti-glare, making it the perfect dining table lamp. Originally, the PH 5 was equipped with red and blue displays to improve the color of the light, but these were removed in later designs, as modern designs reproduce the three-screen light much more smoothly than in 1958.
