Poul Henningsen designed the three-screen system in 1925-1926. Along with Louis Poulsen, PH designed the first light bulbs to use this system for an exhibition in Paris. Collaboration between the two continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, he sought to create direct and dim lighting in the places where it was most needed. In addition, he used incandescent light bulbs as a light source to create soft shadows. PH 41⁄2-4 Glass Suspended is part of the three-screen family, which currently had 30 lights included for use. Thus, he began designing not just a three-light system but three lighter shadows; over the years, he created a three-light system.
