AJ Royal was one of the designs developed by Arne Jacobsen in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (now Radisson Collection). It illuminated, in its copper version, the coffee table tables located behind the lobby, the rest area of the first floor and the lounge with panoramic views of the twenty-first floor. The hotel opened its doors in 1960 and, with its 22 floors, provided Copenhagen with its first authentic skyscrapers, drawing a clear and illuminating inspiration from the New York skyline. At that time, the lamp was simply called a suspension.
