The VL Ring Crown family derives from a lamp designed by the architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for the building of the Danish Radio Broadcasting Company, located in Copenhagen, in the 1940s, where the wall and suspension versions, with their characteristic organic form, found good use. For this project, Vilhelm Lauritzen also created the VL38 and VL45 lamps. The VL Ring Crown never made an appearance there, but not long afterwards, a Ring Crown based on the original designs was introduced. In 1947, designer Finn Juhl, who worked for Vilhelm Lauritzen, used the VL Crown as part of the three interior designs for the Danish luminaire manufacturer The Bing Grøhl & Crown lamp designed underneath a sophisticated lineup.
